Nigeria has issued a strong warning to the United States over reports that Washington may expand its travel ban to include 36 more countries, many of them African. Nigeria, Africa’s most populous nation, says such sweeping restrictions could trigger trade retaliation and jeopardize U.S. access to West Africa’s vital mineral resources. The move follows President Trump’s recent imposition of full or partial bans on several nations, sparking diplomatic backlash. Nigeria’s foreign minister has called the proposed expansion “unfortunate” and warned it could damage strategic partnerships. As tensions rise, other African nations may also push back against Washington’s tightening immigration stance.
