The East African Crude Oil Pipeline is approaching completion, but Uganda’s first oil exports remain subject to commissioning and supply schedules. In an 8 October 2026 report, CGTN Africa says the 1,443-kilometre route from Hoima to Tanzania’s Tanga coast is 92.7% complete. The report attributes delays to equipment deliveries affected by conflict in the Middle East and describes expectations for pipeline filling in December and initial export shipments in early 2027.
The project connects Uganda’s oil production ambitions with Tanzania’s port and energy infrastructure. CGTN also highlights President Yoweri Museveni’s preference for domestic refining and the wider regional competition to develop processing capacity. Environmental groups continue to oppose the pipeline, while developers defend its standards. Completion estimates and export dates should be understood as reported projections, rather than confirmation that commercial exports have begun.
