Uganda’s Health Service Commission plans to recruit 1,000 health workers to help fill vacancies in regional referral hospitals and specialised institutions. NTV Uganda reports that many facilities remain below half of their required staffing levels, with particular shortages in specialised roles. The commission says recruitment advertisements will follow the necessary clearance of vacancies. Priority areas include critical clinical services, difficult-to-fill positions and facilities facing heavy workloads. The report also examines new staffing structures and administrative delays that can leave wage allocations unused. The planned recruitment is intended to strengthen services, but implementation will depend on approvals and coordinated action.
